広島原子爆弾が直下に炸裂した爆心地の付近の惨状である。爆心直下の広島郵便局の本局は、一部のレンガ造りの一部のみが残存した(写真上)。広島産業奨励会館が崩壊するも原爆ドームとして残存した(写真下)。その付近の西蓮寺には一部の墓石も残存した。
