Family members took care of their survivors within the rescue facility housing in place of the schools for the diseases from Hiroshima atomic bombings.

広島原子爆弾の爆心地から約2.6kmにある第一国民学校(現・広島市立段原中学校)が救護所となった。原爆の炸裂から生き残った被爆者は、治療を求めて救護所に詰めかけた。膨大な被爆者を収容した救護所内で、家族が寄り添って被爆者を見守った。充分な治療もなく1945年末までに約14万人が原爆で死亡した。
