Just after the explosion of the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb, young soldiers from the Akatsuki troops belonging to the Army Ship Headquarters were dispatched and rescued the numerous victims.

広島原子爆弾が炸裂して、被爆者の救護や治療は、微力ながら被爆直後から始動した。軍関係者で、陸軍船舶司令部所属であり江田島で在駐した無被災のマルレ特攻船舶の暁部隊の若年兵士が炸裂直後から派遣された。その救護班を中心にして、翌日の8月7日には爆心地から約700mでビルの崩壊を免れた福屋百貨店にて被災者の救護をしていた。
