広島原子爆弾の炸裂により、爆心地から南西1.0kmの屋外で被爆した日本軍兵士が、第1陸軍病院の宇品分院に護送された。重症の原爆症により、口腔内を診察すると、口唇から出血して、さらに歯茎からも出血が継続していた。口内炎も併発して、さらに脱毛も伴った。1945年8月下旬に病状を撮影した翌日に、日本軍兵士は死亡した。
