In spite of only skin around his lumbar region escaped the burn, a Japanese soldier was suffered from severely burn wounds by Hiroshima atomic bomb.

広島原子爆弾が炸裂した直後から、爆心地から南約4kmの瀬戸内海に似島に臨時の救護所が設置された。以前には海外から帰還する軍隊の検疫所に被爆者が殺到した。重傷の熱傷を帯びた兵士は、腰巻きの皮膚は免れた全身の熱傷を被爆して救護された。
